ABOUT BADMINTON

Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles), who take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents' half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. A rally ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor, or if a fault has been called by either the umpire or service judge or, in their absence, the offending player, at any time during the rally.

The serving team is the “in” side; the receiving team is “out”. An “inning” is the time that a player or team is serving. The score is called out with the inning teams score followed by the outher teams score.

Umpire tosses a coin to determine who gets serve or side. Team to call the toss is mutually decided and if there is a double call the toss is repeated.

Unlike normal badminton rules, TT rules apply to any HBL game. In such games a point lost is a point scored and the service changes to the winning side.

At any given point during the game, an even score is served from the right side of the court and an odd score is served from the left side of the court.

A player always serves in the opposite court, diagonally across his court.

Service is only played once. No retries are allowed.

08

Server has to serve with the racquet head below the waist and wrist. Server and the opponent recievng the serve, need to remain in one position. Movement during service costs a point.

09

Server has to be within the white lines of his court. If the foot of the server touches any line while serving it is considered FOUL.

10

Service can be played only once the Umpire calls out the scores.
